I didn't win, but I didn't lose either!
Friday, May 6, 2011 at 8:42AM First of all, a great big, fat THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me in the first round of the room makeover contest! I really cannot believe I made it to the semi-finals.
While I did not make the Top 5, I really still feel like a winner! I feel this way for many reasons. First of all, I have been soooooooooooo encouraged by all of your support--especially the sweet FB messages! Second, I have been introduced to so many great blogs and "met" so many fantastic bloggers because of this contest! And while there are many more reasons, this is going to be the last one I write about: my neighbor is the sweetest thing ever!
As a semi-finalist, we were asked to submit two photos and a "plead your case" paragraph. I have already told you what my husband said about that! I knew that I didn't want or deserve the room makeover more than any of the other contestants. I didn't know what to write, so my neighbor and friend said, "Please let me write it!" I did, and this is what she had to say:
It all started with a hole in the ceiling…When my friend Holly and her husband Mark were in the process of buying their house on our street in Geneva Illinois, the inspector put his finger through a suspicious-looking hole in the ceiling and a chunk of wet drywall came down. But Holly and Mark saw the potential and bought the house anyway, and I am so grateful they did. I'm writing this "plea" on behalf of my neighbor and friend. She told me she wouldn't know how to plead her case, so I begged her for the job. If you've seen Holly's blog, you know she's crafty, clever, and industrious. But what you may not know is that Holly is full of faith: faith in God, faith in people, and faith that there is good in every person…and every piece of junk that most people would throw out. :) She sees the beauty and potential in everyONE and everyTHING, and I'm proud to have her as my friend. I'd love for you to vote for her so that Mandi can work her magic on the bedroom she and her husband share in their home.
Sincerely,
Sarah P.
Seriously, that made me a bit weepy! Who wouldn't feel like a million bucks after that sweet, sweet note? You see, while the room makeover was a really fun idea for me, and I am sad Mandi won't be coming to my house ;), I am more than just a room, and my friend really helped me keep that in perspective. I sure hope you all have a friend like that! I love you, Sarah!
Stop by Vintage Revivals and vote for a room! I didn't make the cut, but there are still five fantastic ladies hoping for your vote!!!!
Enjoy the Son today!

That is SUCH a sweet comment from your neighbor. What a treasure!
Holly Kennedy: now you are making ME cry! I love you, Friend!
Holly, that is truly beautiful. I am so glad that you shared this with us. I'll be honest with you, me ending up in the top 5 is sort of bittersweet. While I am super excited (and shocked) I am sad for all of the deserving ladies that didn't make it. I know, I know, it's a contest and not everyone can win (my mom had to remind me of that last night as I watched Lauren from American Idol tear up because she was in the bottom two ~ I'm a big baby)...but I feel like everyone should! I personally can't wait to see what you do with your home...

Holly, you're a winner already with a family and community that loves you! I didn't win either, but never really expected to either. The Epic-By-Me Makeover is just another project that's waiting on me :) Our readers like to see what we come up with too!!
